Gully's FFA Cup hero: from stinker to stunner

Green Gully striker Liam Boland claimed Tuesday night wasn't the first time he's tried to chip the goalkeeper but he was glad it first came off against Central Coast Mariners in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.

Boland conceded he was having "a stinker" in the second half before scoring a stunning match-winner against the Mariners.

The 24-year-old struck from 40 yards in stoppage time to clinch a 2-1 win for Green Gully and send the PS4 NPL Victoria club into the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16.

"I've tried it a few times this year and it hasn't come off, but what a time for it to come off," Boland told Goal Australia after the match.

Boland added: "I was having a stinker in the second half.

"I thought I was alright in the first half but I'm just glad I took my chance - I didn't have much - I'm in shock to be honest, it was unbelievable."

Green Gully players celebrate Liam Boland's stunning strike.

Green Gully had trailed until the 85th minute thanks to Blake Powell's first half strike.

But after Daniel Jones leveled the match, Boland's strike completed Gully's comeback as the home side became just the second lower league club to eliminate A-League opposition in FFA Cup history.
