History in the cup: Perth Glory

After being knocked out in the Playoffs last season Perth Glory will be aiming for a return to Australia Cup Final Rounds in 2022.

Following a 12th placed Isuzu A-League Men’s finish Glory will face Newcastle Jets at Jack McLaughlan Oval on Thursday night (7:30pm AEST KO) for a spot in the Round of 32.

Perth have enjoyed several deep cup runs in the past, most notably reaching the Australia Cup Final in each of the competition’s first two seasons.

In 2014 wins over Newcastle Jets, St Albans Saints, Melbourne Victory and Bentleigh Greens saw Glory reach the final where they were defeated 1-0 by Adelaide United thanks to a solitary Sergio Cirio strike.

In 2015 Glory were again beaten finalists, going down 2-0 to Melbourne Victory after reaching the season's showpiece courtesy of wins over Newcastle Jets, Lions FC, Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne City.

2016 was Glory’s most recent victory in the competition, they defeated Brisbane Roar 2-0 on the road in the Round of 32 thanks to a pair of goals from Dino Djublic before bowing out in the Round of 16 at the hands of Sydney FC.

In 2017, 2018 & 2019 Glory were beaten in the Round of 32 by Heidelberg United, Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers respectively.

Perth will compete in the Australia Cup Final Rounds Playoffs for a second season running after being beaten by Melbourne Victory on penalties in the playoff in 2021.

Every match in the Australia Cup 2022 – including this week’s Final Rounds Playoffs – will be broadcast live and free across the nation on Network 10 via 10Play.
