Throwback: APIA Leichhardt shock Victory in 3-2 thriller

The night of Tuesday, 21 August 2018 remains one of the biggest upsets in Australia Cup history.

New South Wales NPL outfit APIA Leichhardt overcame reigning A-League Men's champions Melbourne Victory 3-2 in a truly enthralling and see-sawing clash.

Japanese forward Tasuku Sekiya opened the scoring for the hosts at Leichhardt Oval with an angled finished which ricocheted off the far post on nine minutes.

He would add a second straight after half-time courtesy of an emphatic finish after cutting inside his defender.

Victory responded through a Kenny Athiu brace in the space of six minutes. His first, a snapshot from Kosta Barbarouses' low cross on 60 minutes, before a simple tap-in after Jai Ingham's header hit the post and rolled across the goal-line.

But there would be one more dramatic twist in this epic battle with the Tigers retaking the lead in the 80th minute via Nathan Millgate's thunderous header.
