Dwight Yorke marked his first game in charge of Macarthur with a six-star performance against Magpies Crusaders United at BB Print Stadium in Mackay.

It was a fantastic start to the match for Macarthur as the A-League Men side scored with their first opportunity. It took just 74 seconds for Yorke’s side to win a free kick on the edge of the area and Anthony Carter made no mistake by driving it into the bottom corner.

Chances were few and far between for Magpies Crusaders as Macarthur pushed for a second but the North Queensland side managed to limit the A-League side to only one goal at the break.

Yorke made two changes at the break with Daniel Arzani and Charles M'Mombwa replacing Jake Hollman and Lachlan Rose. It was Arzani’s first appearance in Australia since April 2018 when he played in a semi-final for Melbourne City.

And the changes paid dividends in the 56th minute as Yorke’s men went on to find a third through a sensational long-range effort from Daniel De Silva.

Macarthur went from strength to strength as Arzani marked his return to the country with a goal from the penalty spot after a handball decision went against the Magpies Crusaders with 15 minutes remaining.

The A-League side closed out the match with two stunning strikes from Al Hassan Toure on the right. The 22-year-old found himself free inside the area and smashed his first across the keeper while his second was blasted into the top corner at the near post.

Newcastle Jets – 0

Adelaide United – 2 (George BLACKWOOD 45’, Hiroshi IBUSUKI 79‎'‎)

In the first of three all A-League Men Round of 32 clashes, Adelaide swept aside Newcastle Jets with a 2-0 victory at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The opening stages of the match produced a tight encounter until Adelaide wrestled control of the midfield and had the better of the chances.

Michael Weier made a number of key saves to deny the Reds on numerous occasions, but he could not do anything about George Blackwood's point-blank header on the stroke of half-time.

Blackwood was in the right place at the right time to head home Zach Clough’s free-kick which was not dealt with by the Newcastle defence.

The second half saw Adelaide lose a bit of the control that they had in the opening 45 minutes, but Newcastle were not able to convert their possession into clear-cut chances.

With ten minutes remaining, Adelaide went on to score their second and kill off the game through Hiroshi Ibusuki who produced a goal of the tournament contender with a stunning bicycle kick from Clough’s looping cross.
