Yeronga Eagles aim to soar in Cup debut

Yeronga Eagles are looking to soar when they make their Australia Cup debut at their home ground, Leyshon Park on Saturday afternoon against West Wanderers.

The 2022 Australia Cup preliminary rounds commence in Queensland this weekend, with the Eagles one of a handful of clubs from the Sunshine State competing in the Cup for the first time.

FULL FIXTURES: Queensland Preliminary Round 2 and 3 Fixtures Confirmed

Located on Cansdale Street across the road from Queensland heavyweights, Olympic FC – Yeronga FC have been awarded a licence to join the newly formed FQPL 6 and will compete in Football Queensland’s competition for the first time in 2022 after previously playing in the Q-League and local church leagues.

FQPL 6 is the bottom tier of the Football Queensland pyramid that connects all competitions in Queensland’s south east from NPL down through the newly implemented promotion-relegation system.

Yeronga Eagles represent Brisbane’s Salvadorian community, donning the Central American nation’s blue and white colours on their playing kit, a silhouette map of El Salvador also features on the back of the jersey.

The club hosts an annual Copa America tournament in the summer months while the canteen serves pupusas, a traditional Salvadorian flatbread.

The ambitious outfit from Brisbane’s south side have appointed Mario Malesevic as their Head Coach, who arrives at the club after coaching Brisbane Strikers U23 side in 2021.

The Eagles opponents in this weekend’s Preliminary Round 2 clash are West Wanderers FC from Toowoomba.

West Wanderers compete in the FQPL 3 Darling Downs competition and will be looking to improve on their third placed finish from 2021 and edge closer to silverware this season.

In 2021 the Wanderers defeated Kawana FC to reach round three in the cup before being beaten by St. George Willawong.

The victor of Saturday's clash at Leyshon Park will face the winner of Bilambil Terranora and Logan Roos in Round 3.
