Australia Cup 2023 Round of 32: Matchday Three Wrap

It was a sensational Thursday night of goals as the Australia Cup Round of 32 continued to prove a compelling watch.

NPL Victoria’s Heidelberg United and Melbourne Knights went through while FNSW League One’s Inter Lions also made it into the Round of 16.

Moreton Bay United FC - 0
Heidelberg United FC - 3 (Kaine SHEPPARD 3’, Joshua PIN 15’, Sean ELLIS 54’)

Heidelberg United cruised through to the next round in a 3-0 victory over Moreton Bay United at Wolter Park.

Heidelberg made the most of a purposeful start with Kaine Sheppard and Joshua Pin both scoring stunners within the first quarter of an hour to take a commanding lead into the break.

The side kept up the pace after halftime adding a third courtesy of Sean Ellis’ header in the 54th minute which confirmed their place in the Round of 16.

Melbourne Knights FC - 4 (Gian ALBANO 23’ 80’, Mohammed SUMAORO 35’, Mitchell HORE 69’)
Lions FC - 1 (Andy PENGELLY 34’)

Melbourne Knights defeated Lions FC 4-1 following a frantic first half at Knights Stadium.

Gian Albano bent an exceptional effort into the top left corner midway through the half to give the Knights the lead.

Andy Pengelly turned in Ivan Ozzi’s cross 34 minutes in to equalise for the visitors, but an impressive header down the other end from Mohammed Sumaoro put Melbourne immediately back in front a minute later.

Mitch Hore extended the Knights’ lead in the 69th minute, and a little over 10 minutes later, Albano raced in for his second of the game in clinical style.

Hellenic Athletic Club - 0
Inter Lions FC - 6 (Owen DUKE 6’ 20’, Oliver GREEN 40’ 58’, Sam ARMSON 45+1’, Thomas QUILLIGAN 65’)

Inter Lions put Hellenic Athletic Club to the sword in a 6-0 battering at Darwin’s Larrakia Park.

Attacker Owen Duke bagged an early double nodding past Hellenic Athletic goalkeeper Kane McAdam before guiding one into the far-right corner.

Duke found Oliver Green for Inter Lions’ third before Sam Armson pounced for his captain’s goal to finish a fantastic first half for the FNSW League One team.

Green notched his second just before the hour mark, and then Thomas Quilligan buried a penalty in the 65th minute to complete the rout.
