Australia Cup Round of 16 action continues with a pair of exciting ties on Sunday afternoon.

At least one NPL side will secure a Quarter Final spot with Sydney United, Western United, Peninsula Power and Green Gully set to battle it out for the right to join Sydney FC & Macarthur in the last eight.

Sydney United and Western United both chase a first ever Quarter Final berth when they battle it out at Sydney United Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Sydney United finished the NPL New South Wales season in eighth position and come into Sunday’s clash after suffering a 2-1 Waratah Cup Final defeat at the hands of NWS Spirit last weekend.

Miro Vlastelica’s side reached the last 16 for a fifth time after defeating Monaro Panthers 3-0 thanks to goals from former A-League trio Patrick Antelmi, Chris Payne and Kyle Cimenti.

Antelmi, who scored the opener in United’s Round of 32 moved level with Chris Lucas and Liam Boland as one of all-time top scoring NPL players in the Australia Cup Final Rounds with nine goals.

Sydney United’s number nine has also spent time at Western United, appearing once in the 2019/20 A-League season.

Another player lining up against his former club is Nicolas Milanovic, who played his junior football at Sydney United.

The 20-year-old winger made his second senior start in Western’s 2-1 Round of 32 win over defending cup winners Melbourne Victory.

John Aloisi’s side warmed up for Sunday’s match with a 3-0 win over Bulleen Lions on Tuesday night with Noah Botic, Steven Lustica and Lachie Wales all getting on the scoresheet.

Peninsula Power and Green Gully go head-to-head in the first all-NPL tie of this year’s Round of 16 at AJ Kelly Park on Sunday.

Last season’s NPL Queensland Premiers will compete in the last 16 for the first time after a 4-1 Round of 32 win over NWS Spirit.

Malakai Love-Semira starred off the bench for Power, netting a brace to add to first half goals from Jake Mclean and Josah Hitchcock.

Rick Coghlan’s side, who sit fourth on the NPL Queensland standings with just three rounds left to play come into Sunday’s match off the back of a 2-1 win over Moreton Bay United last weekend.


Gully reached the Round of 16 after twice coming from behind to defeat Wollongong United 3-2 at Ian Mclennan Park last month.

Gianluca Iannucci scored one of the goals of the Round of 32 with Alex Salmon and Joshua Hope also getting their names on the scoresheet as Gully secured a spot a in the last 16 for a second time.

Stephen Downes side, who were beaten 2-0 by Melbourne Knights in their most recent outing sit fourth on the NPL Victoria standings with just two matches left to play.
