On this day in 2017: Sydney secure first Australia Cup

Sydney FC clinched its maiden Australia Cup on this day, 21 November 2017 at Allianz Stadium following a 2-1 extra-time win over Adelaide United.

Milos Ninkovic struck in the 19th minute after being released by Alex Brosque and expertly placed his finish under Reds goalkeeper Paul Izzo.

Nikola Mileusnic then levelled proceedings in stunning style on 67 minutes.

The winger controlled Ersan Gulum's diagonal pass, cut inside and picked out the top corner with a sublime left-footed curling effort from just inside the box which left Andrew Redmayne helpless.

Nothing could separate the two sides after 90 minutes which meant for the inaugural time in the competition's history the final would be going to extra-time.

From there, the hosts would break the deadlock in the 111th minute to snatch a dramatic win.

Adrian Mierzejewski sent an inviting free-kick into the box and an unmarked Bobo headed home from close range.

The victory was the Sky Blues' third domestic title in 2017, having clinched the A-League Men's Premiership and Championship double earlier in the year.
