Five Star Adelaide City book place in the Australia Cup Round of 32

Adelaide City secure their place in the Australia Cup Round of 32 after their emphatic 5-0 win over Eastern United at the State Centre for Football.

The underdogs Eastern United started the game strongly as coach Gabriel Markaj’s seemed to have set his team up perfectly to withhold the Adelaide City attack and attempt to catch their opponents on the counterattack.

Eastern United’s best chance came within the first three minute of the match as Niko Matija hit a threatening ball across the Adelaide City defence, however no Eastern United attacker was able to capitalise on a tap in to give their side an early lead.

Continuing to withhold a strong Adelaide City attack throughout the opening ten minutes of the match, Eastern United looked to have found a perfect way withhold the current RAA NPLSA league leaders and create numerous chances as they looked to replicate their memorable 2-1 win over Campbelltown City last round.

Eastern United’s defence was finally beaten in the 12th minute as Ayom Ayom Majok found the opener through a fast-paced counterattack where he was provided with an open goal to tap the ball in after Aladin Irabona hit a well weighted ball across the Eastern United goalkeeper.

The flood gates were open as Adelaide City found their second only three minutes later as Matthew Dawber earnt a penalty for his team after the Eastern United keeper collided with him inside the box. Irabona was the man to step up to further increase his teams lead as he converted his penalty to the keepers left, providing his side a 2-0 lead.

Eastern United’s misery continued as Adelaide City’s found their third only ten minutes later as Irabona secured his second of the match after he was provided with an empty net to convert the ball. After colliding with the Eastern United goalkeeper, Irabona was the first to regain his feet and put the ball into the back of the net to increase their lead to 3-0.

Adelaide City’s fourth came just before the half-time break through a well worked Majok run that saw him beat two Eastern United defenders, with his shot going straight through the opposition keepers’ hands.

After coming out of the half-time break with a 4-0 lead, Adelaide City proceeded to comfortably move the ball around patently as they invited the Eastern United pressure. This continued to frustrate the Eastern United attack as they were unable to break their opposition down and try and produce a comeback.

Kur Kur missed a perfect opportunity to further increase their lead after he saw his shot blaze over the cross bar after he made a silky run into the box.

Adelaide City put more salt in Eastern United’s wounds in the 84th minute as team Kur Kur secured his first of the match as he placed the ball into the bottom corner after Nicholas Bucco unselfishly laid off his penalty kick for his teammate who made the run in into the box.

With the game finishing with an Adelaide City 5-0 win, it confirmed the teams second Australia Cup Round of 32 appearance in the last two years. Could we potentially see the RAA NPLSA’s undefeated league leader continue their unbelievable form into a Australia Cup run to remember?
