On the Zebras side, Daniele Bressan, Charlie Devereux, Aladin Irabona, Ayom Majok, Dakota Ochsenham, Jai King-Byrne and Zak Waters all played for current City Head Coach Paul Pezos in United’s youth team. Captain Matthew Halliday played in the Reds' youth team in 2010/11.

Ochsenham would sit on the bench for United's senior squad on several occasions while City stalwart, Joseph Costa, also played for the Young Reds, making one A-League Men appearance for United in the 2009/10 season.

Of the current United squad, Lachlan Barr and Asad Kasumovic both made the switch to the Reds after winning the 2021 NPLSA Championship with City, and representing the club in the Australia Cup against Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory.
