The Newcastle Jets are out to win their first ever Hahn Australia Cup when they take on Heidelberg United at Lakeside Stadium on Saturday, 4 October.
Read about their journey to the final as they prepare for the showpiece event.
Round of 32: Newcastle Jets 2 – 1 Adelaide United
One of Newcastle’s toughest tests came all the way back in the Round of 32, when they defeated Cup specialists Adelaide United 2-1.
The Reds scored first through Stefan Mauk before Ben Gibson and Alex Badolato – on club debut – gave the Jets the lead, and ultimately the victory.
Round of 16: Cooks Hill United 0 – 5 Newcastle Jets
The Jets made light work of local Northern NSW team Cooks Hill United in the Round of 16, defeating them 5-0.
Daniel Wilmering scored a brace while Xavier Bertoncello, Kota Mizunuma and Ben Gibson were also on the scoresheet.
Quarter-final: Newcastle Jets 3 – 0 Macarthur FC
Newcastle overcame defending champions Macarthur FC 3-0 to advance to their first ever semi-final.
Max Burgess was on the end of a wonderful team move in the first half before Will Dobson and Kota Mizunuma made sure of the result with goals in the second.
Semi-final: Avondale FC 2 – 4 Newcastle Jets
They were made to work for it, but the Jets were too good in the end, defeating Avondale FC 4-2.
Xavier Bertoncello and Kota Mizunuma gave the Jets a two-goal lead early in the match. A brace for Luca Tevere tied things up, however, and Avondale looked as if they might pull off the unthinkable.
Newcastle held their nerve. Eli Adams helped them regain their advantage before Alexandro Nunes sealed the result in stoppage time.
