WATCH: Phoenix move into the Quarter Finals

Wellington Phoenix created history on Tuesday night, qualifying for the FFA Cup Quarter Finals for the first time after a 4-1 win over Avondale FC. 

It was a comfortable win for the Phoenix, racing out to a 3-0 lead inside the opening 24 minutes of the match at ABD Stadium in Broadmeadows. 

The 10-man Avondale - who had Blake Carpenter sent off in the first half - pulled one back late in the second period, but Wellington added a fourth shortly after to kill off any potential comeback. 

Ufuk Talay's men will now face Melbourne City FC for a spot in the Semi Finals next Wednesday, 22 December, with the venue still TBC.
