FIXTURES: Australia Cup Quarter Finals

A stunning ninth minute strike from defender, Yianni Fragogiannis, proved decisive as United became the first side to reach this year’s final four.

Fragogiannis rocketed a first time strike on the half volley into the back of the net from the edge of the area after the Power defence could only half clear a long throw from the visitors.

The away side came close to adding a second midway through the first half when a Yianni Perkatis header came bouncing back off the crossbar.

It was the home side who enjoyed the majority of the ball with 62% possession while Rick Coghlan’s side managed five shots on target to the visitors one.

United goalkeeper, Danijel Nizic who was the hero in the Round of 16 win over Western United again made a number of crucial saves, most notably denying Malakai Love-Semira one-on-one in the 53rd minute to ensure the visitors progression.

The win in United’s first ever Australia Cup Quarter Finals appearance sees them become the first side to go into the Semi Final draw.

The other three entrants in this year’s final four will be determined on Wednesday night with Oakleigh Cannons hosting Sydney FC, Adelaide United taking on Brisbane Roar and Macarthur facing Wellington Phoenix to round out the Quarter Finals.
