WATCH: Sydney United defeat A-League Men Champions, Two goals in 30 seconds for Peninsula Power

Sydney United 58 FC have caused a 'cupset' for the ages defeating A-League Men Champions Western United in a penalty shootout, while Peninsula Power rallied to score two goals within 30 seconds to advance to the Australia Cup Quarter Finals on Sunday.

Sydney United 58 FC – (4) 1 (Tariq MAIA 56')
Western United – (3) 1 (Connor PAIN 43')

Buoyed by an outstanding goalkeeping display from Danijel Nizic, Sydney United 58 FC advanced past the current A-League Men Champions Western United in a penalty shootout at Edensor Park.

Western United started the better of the two sides dominating the attacking play in the first half and rattling the woodwork three times. Nizic was in fine form early making several stops including brilliant reaction save from point blank off Dylan Wenzel-Halls following the third ricochet off the bar.

The visitors eventually found the net on a fast counter attack just before half time with Dylan Pierias crossing into the box for Connor Pain who put it away with a neatly cushioned volley from close range.

The second half started much the same with Western United creating chances but failing to find the all important second goal. And it proved costly as Sydney United 58 FC found equaliser on 56 minutes.

Tariq Maia received the ball on the edge of the area, taking a touch before shooting powerfully past Jamie Young, who seemed to be wrong footed by a deflection. Get could only get a hand onto it as the ball trickled over the line.

Western United's best chance to retake the lead came in the 73rd minute from Josh Risdon cutting back before shooting low and hard inside the near post, only for Nizic to drop down to his left to make a magnificent save.

As the game wore on Sydney United 58 grew in confidence while Western United kept in search of a winner to no avail as the match was destined for extra time.

Both sides had near misses in the extra 30 minutes with Sydney United's Andrea Agamemnonos smashing the post for would have been the winner in the 116th minute. But in the end it came down to spot kicks.

Ben Garuccio was the first to miss for the A-League Men Champions as the woodwork came to the rescue for Nizic yet again.

Sydney United's Jordan Roberts would have his attempt saved by Jamie Young, but it was Nizic again who capped a fantastic performance, denying Steven Lustica to set up the deciding fifth penalty for Cristian Gonzalez.

He made no mistake firing into the roof of the net to send the home crowd faithful into raptures and Sydney United into the Quarter Finals of the Australia Cup.

Peninsula Power – 2 (Josh WOOLLEY 79', Alex SMITH 79')
Green Gully SC – 1 (Joshua HOPE 69’)

In the afternoon's second game, Peninsula Power came from a goal down to defeat Green Gully SC in a rapid-fire comeback with two goals in the space of 30 seconds.

Green Gully started the better of the two sides carving out the earlier opportunities with Alex Salmon hitting the upright as he stole into the near post ahead of his marker to meet Matthew Fletcher's cross.

Joshua Hope then closed down a quickly taken free-kick to set himself up on a one on one with Power goalkeeper Phillip Zabaks who was equal to the task, getting down low to his left to keep the scores level at 0-0.

It was a similar story in the second half has Zabaks again saved Hope's low effort in the 49th minute following neat interplay with Salmon to set up the chance.

But he wasn't to be denied a third time as Mamadi Kamara's pace down the left unlocked the Power defence, floating a cutback cross for Hope to head home and give Green Gully the lead.

That set up a smash and grab from the Power as first  Josh Woolley scored direct from a corner swinging his cross over Gully keeper Liam Driscoll's head, and inside the back post in the 79th minute.

Then from the resulting kick off, the Queenslanders regained possession with substitute Solomon Weldemariam's dipping long range strike parried by Driscoll into the path of Alex Smith who was on hand to tap home in less than 30 seconds from the equaliser hitting the back of the net.

Green Gully would have their chances late on resulting in near misses as Peninsula Power held on to take an unlikely win and advance to the Australia Cup Quarter Finals for the very first time.
