WATCH: Oakleigh pull off cupset against Sydney FC, Brisbane & Macarthur advance

Oakleigh Cannons pulled off one of the all-time great upsets to advance to the Australia Cup Semi Finals while Brisbane Roar and Macarthur also secured their places in the last four on Wednesday night.

How to Watch the Australia Cup Semi Finals

Oakleigh Cannons FC – 2 (Wade DEKKER 6’, Chris LUCAS 31’)
Sydney FC  – 1 (Adrian SEGECIC 74’)

Oakleigh Cannons caused a cupset against Sydney FC with a 2-1 win on Wednesday night at Jack Edwards Reserve, joining fellow NPL outfit Sydney United in the Semi Final draw.

The two sides faced off in the only A-League v Member Federation Club tie of this year’s Quarter Finals. And the Cannons did not disappoint.

They took an early lead through Wade Dekker, who popped up at the back post to tap home Chris Lucas’ through ball from close range after six minutes.

Things got even better for Oakleigh after 30 minutes when Lucas grabbed his own goal after a scramble from a corner. The 30-year-old striker was in the right place at the right time to capitalise on Andrew Redmayne’s parried corner that was flashed back across the goal for a tap-in.

Oakleigh carried their two-goal lead into half time while Steve Corica opted not to make any changes at the break.

But Corica did turn to his bench after 65 minutes when he replaced debutant Joe Lolley with another debutant in the form of Slovakian import Róbert Mak.

Sydney thought they had found a way back into the game with 20 minutes remaining. Adrian Segecic headed home from close range but the offside flag was up.

However, moments later Segecic got the goal Sydney were searching for. The 18-year-old headed the ball into the net from close range after Anthony Caceres burst into the box and chipped the ball to the back post.

But it was not enough as Sydney failed to find an equaliser and Oakleigh advanced with a historic victory.

Adelaide United – 1 (Hiroshi IBUSUKI 41’)
Brisbane Roar  – 2 (Jay O’SHEA 7’, Charlie AUSTIN 31’)

Charlie Austin grabbed his first Brisbane Roar goal as his side secured their passage to the Australia Cup Semi Finals with a 2-1 win over Adelaide United at ServiceFM Stadium.

Joe Gauci saved the day in Adelaide United’s penalty shootout win over Adelaide City in the Round of 16 and he again stood tall by stopping Riku Danzaki from scoring in the opening five minutes.

But Gauci could not do anything about Jay O'Shea’s bullet into the corner after seven minutes. O'Shea received the ball on the edge of the area and fired it past a helpless Gauci after Nikola Mileusnic’s positive run down the right wing.

Hiroshi Ibusuki had a golden opportunity 13 minutes later to level the scores from close range after Louis D'Arrigo scuffed a shot goal bound but he could not get a touch on the ball.

Things got worse for Adelaide after 30 minutes when Charlie Austin found himself free from a corner and headed home at the near post to extend Brisbane’s lead.

Adelaide pulled one back four minutes before half time when Ibusuki finished off a goal-mouth scramble after a deflected shot sent Macklin Freke to ground.

Ryan Kitto tried to find the equaliser five minutes into the second half after he charged into the box and got on the end of a free kick but he directed his effort over the bar.

Adelaide’s quest for an equaliser got even harder in the 57th minute when Ibusuki was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Henry Hore.

The Reds introduced Josh Cavallo and Asad Kasumovic in an attempt to salvage an equaliser. Javi López was then thrust into the action with 15 minutes remaining.

Moments later, Isaías forced a smart save from Freke moments from long range but the Brisbane keeper did enough to parry the ball away from goal.

Isaías then gave away a free kick right on the edge of the penalty box to stop Brisbane Roar’s counter and the subsequent set piece was lashed into the apex by O’Shea.

While Adelaide pushed for an equaliser late on, Brisbane did enough to hold on to the victory and advance to the Semi Finals.

Macarthur FC – 2 (Al Hassan TOURE 41’, Lachlan ROSE 88’)
Wellington Pheonix  – 0

Dwight Yorke and Macarthur FC defeated Wellington 2-0 to qualify for the Semi Final of the Australia Cup for the first time at Campbelltown Stadium.

Wellington flew out of the blocks with Ben Waine hitting the post to hand Macarthur an early warning sign.

Al Hassan Toure had a great opportunity to open the scoring after 23 minutes when he found some space on the right but he could not direct his shot goal bound.

The 2019 Australia Cup winner and Mark Viduka Medallist then made up for the missed opportunity by handing Macarthur the lead four minutes from half time. Toure received the ball on the penalty spot and bent the ball into the right corner after Ulises Dávila’s cross was held up and helped on by Anthony Carter.

Ufuk Talay tried to change Wellington’s fortunes by introducing Tim Payne and new signing Yan Sasse after 54 minutes.

Dwight Yorke thurst Lachlan Rose, Jesper Webber, Jake Hollman and Charles M'Mombwa into the action late on in an attempt to close out the match and hold on to their lead.

And the substitutions paid off for Yorke with two minutes remaining. It was Rose who crept in behind Nicholas Pennington to catch the Wellington defender unaware and fire Macarthur into the Australia Cup Semi Finals.
