Australia Cup young-guns earn Young Socceroos call-ups

Nine stars of the future who were involved in the Australia Cup Round of 32 have been called up for a Young Socceroos training camp in Canberra next week.

Recently appointed Young Socceroos Head Coach Trevor Morgan will cast his eyes over thirty (30) of Australia’s best young footballers in Canberra next week, as an Australian youth cohort assembles at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) for a talent identification camp.

Rhys Bozinvski played the full 90 minutes for Western United as they overcame defending cup winners, Melbourne Victory to reach the Round of 16, while Max Caputo and Bernardo both got minutes off the bench in wins for Melbourne City and Adelaide United respectively.

Going down to Bernardo's Adelaide United were Archie Goodwin, who was a 77th minute substitute while Peter Grozos was an unused sub for Newcastle Jets.

Also suffering Round of 32 defeat were Central Coast Mariners trio, Garang Kuol, Nectarios Triantis and Lawrence Caruso.

Kuol and Triantis both started for the Mariners, who were defeated on penalties by Sydney FC while goalkeeper, Caruso was an unused substitute for Nick Montgomery's side.

It wasn't just players from A-League clubs who have earned a call-up with Oakleigh Cannons defender, Anthony Pantazopoulos playing 90 minutes in his sides 5-0 win over Bonnyrigg White Eagles also being named in the 30-man squad.

The camp will enable Morgan to assess some of Australia’s best young talent in the flesh for the first time since he was announced as permanent Head Coach of the Young Socceroos – Australia’s U-20 men’s national football team.

Olyroos Head Coach and Socceroos’ great, Tony Vidmar, will also be in camp to monitor the group – some of whom may challenge for U-23 selection in the future.

The camp at the AIS will run from Monday, 8 August 2022 through to Thursday, 11 August 2022, and will feature a talent identification match – streamed live on Football Australia’s My Football YouTube channel – from 3.00pm AEST on Wednesday, 10 August 2022.
