"We back ourselves." - Nizic

Sydney United 58 Goalkeeper, Danijel Nizic says his side are full of confidence heading into Sunday’s Australia Cup Semi Final against Brisbane Roar at Sydney United Sports Centre.

United became the first non A-League side from New South Wales to reach the final four with victories over Monaro Panthers, Western United and Peninsula Power.

Former Western Sydney Wanderers goalkeeper, Nizic shot to stardom following his penalty shootout heroics in the Round of 16 win over defending A-League Champions Western United.

Speaking on the Magic of the Cup podcast Nizic said his sides cupset victory over John Aloisi’s side would live long in the memory.

“That was a special day, the boys, we just thought we had nothing to lose, we thought we could make an upset and look we did, we worked hard and the boys just stuck together and got the win,” Nizic said.

“It was a good way to do it as well, going to extra time, penalty shootout, winning on penaltiess then all the fans running on, it was an unbelievable day.”

The 27-year-old who denied Steven Lustica from the penalty spot before Cristian Gonzalez dispatched the winning spot-kick said he had a little help from YouTube prior to his sides Round of 16 win.

"The morning of the game I went on YouTube and I thought, you know what I’ll just watch some of their highlights, maybe they’ve got a penalty or something like that.

“A week before they had played an NPL team down in Melbourne, so (Steven) Lustica I watched, he’d scored a penalty going down that way that I went and saved.

“As soon as he lined up I thought you know what he scored, he probably didn’t think I was going to watch it, so yeah lucky I watched YouTube that morning.”

United again go up against A-League opposition again in Brisbane Roar in the Semi Final on Sunday, with Nizic confident his side can get the job done against any opposition remaining in this year’s competition.

“We back ourselves, we’re pretty confident to go up against anyone and I think we’ve proved it and we were happy with anyone,” Nizic said.

“We were buzzing with Brisbane when we got them and we’re ready to go.”

Nizic who spent several seasons in the UK with the likes of Burnley, Morecambe and Crewe Alexander comes up against a familiar face on Sunday in Roar forward, Charlie Austin.

“When I was at Burnley I was with him for four years there so I’m looking forward to going up against him, he’s a good guy, on and off the pitch he’s quality,” Nizic said.
