WATCH: Sydney United make history to advance to Australia Cup Final

Sydney United 58 have become the first NPL side to reach the Final of the Australia Cup following a dramatic 3-2 extra time 'cupset' over Brisbane Roar at Edensor Park on Sunday afternoon.

United had already knocked out reigning A-League Men Champions Western United in the Round of 16 and followed up with another giant killing to defeat Brisbane Roar in front of 3,177 fans at Sydney United Sports Centre.

Roar had the majority of the possession for the game with 62.2% and despite taking the lead twice, they could not shake Sydney United who came back twice to equalise, and ultimately find a winner in extra time.

Danijel Nizic lost for words in emotional post match interview

Riku Danzaki had given the visitors an early lead when Henry Hore squared his pass from the edge of the box for Danzaki to tap it past Nizic in the 13th minute.

Just 11 minutes later, United's Taisei Kaneko crossed high into the box for Matthew Bilic to rise up and head past Roar keeper Macklin Freke to level at 1-1.

On the stroke of half-time, Brisbane were awarded a penalty for handball however United keeper Danijel Nizic dived to his left and saved Jay O'Shea's effort to the delight of the home crowd and keep the scores level at the break.

Roar were awarded a second penalty in the 62nd minute when Kaneko brought down Hore inside the box, receiving a yellow card for his efforts.

Charlie Austin made no mistake dispatching powerfully past his ex-Burnley teammate Nizic to give Roar a 1-2 lead but just nine minute later, Sydney United found another equaliser.

Glen Trifiro sent a cross to Patrick Antelmi outside the box, his shot was deflected, catching Freke out and looping over his head into the back of the net.

Trifiro: You can see how much it means

The game was in the balance as Brisbane pushed hard to find a winner but Sydney United held out to take the game to extra time.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock in the first half of extra time but it felt as though it would take something special, or equally dramatic, for either side to avoid the game goign to penalties.

Straight after the resumption Trifiro linked with Devante Clut whose chipped pass found Chris Payne. His acrobatic backheel chipped the ball back into the path of  Trifiro who took his chance on the volley to give Sydney United the lead, and send Edensor Park wild.

United soaked up the pressure as Brisbane tried to find a way through but the Sydney-siders held on to make history and become the first NPL club to reach the Australia Cup Final since the competition's return as the FFA Cup in 2014.

The Australia Cup Semi Finals conclude on Wednesday night when Oakleigh Cannons FC host Macarthur FC to determine who will meet Sydney United in the Final on Saturday, 1 October.
